Palestine Cola is a cola soft drink made by Safad Food AB, a company based in Malmö, Sweden, which launched the drink in February 2024. It is owned and run by a group of brothers descended from a Palestinian family displaced in 1948. At La Shawermeria we serve it in both Valencia and Madrid.
Where does the name come from?
Safad is the Arabic name for Safed, a city in the north of historic Palestine. The family behind the company descends from people displaced from there during the 1948 Nakba, and they named the company Safad Food after that origin. The drink came later, and took the name it is known by today.
Which varieties do we serve?
What began as a single cola has grown: the Palestine Drinks range now includes citrus flavours and an energy drink too. Four of them are on our menu, all in 330 ml cans:
- Palestine Cola — the original.
- Palestine Cola Sugar Free — the same taste, no sugar.
- Palestine Orange — orange.
- Palestine Lemon — lemon.
Why is it on our menu?
We serve Palestinian food: shawarma marinated for 24 to 48 hours and slow-roasted on a vertical spit, and falafel made by hand. It felt natural for the drink alongside it to come from the same place as the recipe. If the dish is Palestinian, the soft drink can be too.
